New to the Faith?

Are you new to the Christian faith? Has it been years since you were in a church. Perhaps you have never been in a church. Or maybe you’re a long time Christian looking for a new home.

Whatever the reason we have a place for you. We all help each other grow and mature. None of us is perfect.

We believe in a loving gracious God who loves all of us. There is nothing that can separate us from the love of God as taught and lived by Jesus Christ.

Basic Principles of Faith in the United Methodist Tradition

Grace

Our church originated with the leadership of John Wesley. He taught that there are

three stages of Grace.

  • Prevenient Grace

  • Justifying Grace

  • Sanctifying Grace

Prevenient grace is the grace of God that is present even before we know it. It is always there. Justifying Grace is the point at which we acknowledge that love and mercy of God for ourselves. Sanctifying Grace is the grace of God through the Holy Spirit that helps us became the people that God intended us to be.

Belief

How we come to understand our faith is multifaceted. John Wesley said that it is through four areas:

  • Scripture

  • Tradition

  • Reason

  • Experience

Wesley believed that Scripture (the Old and New Testament) was primary, but it is informed by Tradition, Reason and Experience. We have two thousand years of Christian tradition that we can learn from. God has blessed us with a brain with the ability to think and reason. Each of us has personal experiences of the holy that we can share with each other. Not one of us has complete understanding of God and we each may have beliefs that differ based upon our life experience, but we believe that together we can help each other grow deeper in our relationship to God.

Worship

Jesus calls us to live in community with one another. Through our worship we come to offer praise and thanksgiving for the blessings we have received. We come to hear a word from God as we explore the scripture. We offer one another love and support sharing our joys and offering comfort in times of sorrow.

Communion/The Lord’s Supper

On the first Sunday of each month we celebrate the Lord’s Supper or Communion in remembrance of Jesus’ last meal with his friends. We believe that Jesus invites everyone to this meal. Jesus does not turn anyone away. All are welcome to receive the bread and cup.
